Dear KH Parents,
The Runkle Halloween Fair will be held on Friday 10/24/08 from 5:30-8 PM, rain
or shine. This is a fun event for the whole family and is an especially fun
event for the kindergartners! Wear your costume (if you wish.....even the
parents) and join us for an evening of games, classroom trick or treating,
prizes, food, and fun!
Julie Heuberger and Tamar Petler are organizing this year's Halloween Fair.
Their team needs lots of parent volunteers to help with this event -- to sell
food and run games during the Fair in hour-long shifts.
If you cannot attend the Fair but would like to help in another way, we would
welcome your help as well. We need help with making decorations prior to the
event. And we also need donations of white sheets of all sizes and
pillowcases for decorations. Please look through your linen closets and send
us anything that you no longer need. White only, please.
Contact Julie Heuberger (jheuberger@forensicdoc.com) or Tami Petler ([
mailto:tamiyonoa@yahoo.com ]tamiyonoa@yahoo.com) if you would like to
volunteer to help with the Halloween Fair or if you have white sheets to
donate for the event.
THANK YOU!!! We look forward to seeing you and your family at the Halloween Fair!
Also on Thursday, I will post a sign up sheet for the potluck dinner
(happening on Saturday October 18) -- please take a look and sign up to bring
items to the event -- and make sure the date is on your calendars as it is a
wonderful time to meet the other kindergarten parents!
See you all on Thursday!
Amy and Val

KH Families -
We hope your first 2 wks of school have gone well. Here are a few upcoming
events and reminders.
MEET & GREET
Today (Monday 9/22) is the last scheduled time for "Meet and Greet" w/ Mrs.
Haynes. If you did not have a meeting w/ her, you can arrange a meeting
during her office hours on Mondays between 2:20-2:50.
MORNING DROP-OFF
Please remember to have your child bring their GREEN folder to class every day
and remember to look through the info sent home at the end of each day.
Also, please say your goodbyes at the classroom door. Mrs. Haynes needs to
get the class organized to start promptly at 8:00. We know it can be tough,
but our kids are all doing great and will be fine saying goodbye in the hallway.
OPEN HOUSE/BREAKFAST 10/2
There will be a sign-up sheet at drop-off today to bring in breakfast items
for the KH Open House. The Open House will be in the morning at drop-off.
KH INFO ON-LINE
These e-mails and other info will be posted in a link on Mrs. Haynes website.
More info as it arrives.
SNUGGLE AND READ REMINDERS
Looking for a volunteer to send out e-mail reminders a day or two before each
Snuggle and Read. Please contact Val or Amy if you are interested.
Thanks -
Valerie and Amy
Early September 2008
Parents of KH children,
Welcome to the first real (chaotic!) week of school -- we hope that everyone
is settling into the school routine nicely.
We wanted to introduce ourselves. We are Valerie and Amy, the room parents
for Mrs. Haynes class this year. Amy's daughter, Vanessa, and Valerie's son,
Kai, are classmates of your children in KH. The main role of a room parent is
to facilitate communication between the teacher, parents and PTO. Room
parents also coordinate classroom events such as breakfasts, field trips,
potluck suppers, etc. We both have older children at Runkle; Amy's in 6th &
3rd and Valerie's in 1st (and former KH student) -- so we can also help those
of you who are new to the school navigate the schedule and figure out who to
ask for what.
As you settle into September, there are a few upcoming events and activities
we wanted to make sure you were aware of.
First, there is a sign-up sheet posted outside the classroom for a short 15
min MEET & GREET with Mrs. Haynes. Please sign up for a time at your earliest
convenience.
Second, mark your calendars for these special events:
Kindergarten Open House - Thursday Morning, October 2 Time TBD
Kindergarten Curriculum Night - Thursday, October 2 7:00pm
Kindergarten POTLUCK DINNER. This is a Runkle tradition for PARENTS ONLY to
get together at the beginning of the year and socialize.
When: Saturday, Oct 18, 7:00
Hosted by: Nanette and Dan Jacobsen (Jeremy in KP)
Where: At their home, 306 Buckminster Road
What to bring: We will post a sign-up sheet about 2 wks prior
Third, we wanted to make sure you marked your calendars for
"SNUGGLE AND READ" - 10/16, 11/13, 12/11, 1/8, 2/12, 3/12, 4/9, 5/14, 6/11
This is a time for parents to come in first thing in the morning and sit and
read with your child for 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the dates for this
published in a recent PTO mailing were not correct. They are on the second
Thursday of each month - skipping September and beginning on October 16th
(since we do not have school on October 9th). If you cannot attend a snuggle
and read date, just let Mrs. Haynes know ahead of time and they will make sure
a teacher or other parent can read with your child.
Fourth, (and probably too far away for any of us to think about), Kindergarten
puts on an incredibly wonderful year-end event called
KINDERGARTEN POETRY NIGHT - June 4th, 4:30 - 6:00.
There will be more information as the date draws near.
We have learned from other room parents that email is the best way to keep in
touch with parents and are hoping this works for you. Please let us know if
you would prefer hard copies (or if one parent would rather not get the
emails). Of course you can always reach out to us via phone -- our numbers
are below.
Thanks and we look forward to meeting each of you as our kids certainly get to
know each other well!
Warmly,
Amy Glass (mother of Vanessa) 617-738-1208
