Adventures with Weebots: 2:30-4:00 (1 - 2)
In a balanced mix of group and individual activities on and off the computer,
children explore the fundamentals of storytelling, reading, writing,
sequencing, phonics, and science by re-telling and publishing their own
personal versions of a familiar folk
tale. Using a microphone to narrate stories in their own voice and a
music database to capture the mood of each segment, children build
storyboards, plan their script, practice acting, and publish the final
recorded story. The story can be shared electronically with parents & friends.
Throughout the workshop, our special phonics software helps the children
develop letter recognition, consonants, and vowels by quizzing, data-tracking
and a motivational Passport system that kids love. Crafts activities which
incorporate science, math, and engineering concepts, build on the children’s
stories, help develop fine
motor skills, and make for wonderful take-home projects that kids enjoy.
Class meets: Sep. 25; Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30.
