Come explore nature after school! Find signs of animal activity and watch as birds prepare for their journey south. Discover the beautiful shades of fall foliage and learn why leaves change color. Search for spiders as they trap and gulp down their prey. Find out how plants spread their seeds to promise new growth in the spring. We will use hands-on exploration activities, active movement and play, crafts, and stories to investigate the natural world around us. We will be outside and moving as we explore. Weekly classes include hands-on science and nature exploration activities, active movement and play, craft, snack and a story. Each class is designed around a specific theme, some of which may span several weeks. The children will be outside for all or most of the class exploring the schoolyard and/or items brought by the teacher to the school. Each week, children will bring home a small project and a handout that includes factual information, additional exploration activities, and suggested books and websites.
Class meets: Sep 23, 30; Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28; Nov. 4, 18; Dec. 2, 9.
Please note: There is no class on 11/11 or 11/25. Class runs at the regular time on early release days: 11/18, 12/9.
