We are all excited and looking forward to Thanksgiving. I want to wish
each of you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving. Remember to discuss
what you're grateful for! I am very grateful for having wonderful students!
Here are a few things I wanted to tell you about:
1. Report Cards Quarter 1: 1st trimester report cards will be mailed home
on Friday. Please take some time to review with your child their grades in
each of their classes. The beginning of the new trimester is a great time to
have your child think about some goals and improvements they can work on for
2nd trimester and beyond. Often times kids will write down their goals on a
piece of paper and tape it up in their bedroom, near their computer, or where
they do their homework to remind them of what they would like to get better
at. I have been asking kids to think about how they can put in their best
effort into the work they do in school but also out of school at home - this
includes working on the following effort goals:
Time - Being willing to budget the time to do the work to the standards
expected.
Focus - Doing work in a distraction-free environment.
Resourcefulness - Knowing what to do when stuck on work and how to get help.
Using feedback - Looking over suggestions and revisions so they know exactly
what to fix.
Commitment - Determined to do the best work they can.
Persistence - Trying different strategies to complete their work if the first
way does not work for them.
8th grade: THE INDONESIAN DINNER WAS A SUCCESS!!!! I want to take this
opportunity to thank Mrs. Zschuschen, the 8th grade students, Mr. R.T,
parents and guests, for helping to make the 8th grade dinner a success.
Everyone worked really hard and it showed! I especially would like to thank
the 8th graders for their gift of appreciation to Mrs. Z. and to me. We were
very touched.
Back to business now! We have finished our chapter on the restaurant and
will be taking the test on Monday. Students should be more than prepared for
it. Next up in Spanish we will be talking about rooms of the house and the
project for this chapter wil be to design your dream house.
The 7th grade also will be ready for their Chapter 1A test this week. We
will also do some fun things with Thanksgiving vocabulary in Spanish.
In Religion the 7th grade will be having a test on Chapter 5 in Religion.
We will also be talking about bringing in items for the food pantry. Our
class has been excellent about contributing to our little "piggy bank" for
Haiti as well!
The 6th grade finished the first lesson in our Keeping Children Safe
program. Students were given letters talking about Lesson 2 which deals with
assertive and agressive ways to say no to peer pressure. We have put our
Spanish on hold until we finish the safety program.
Have a good week!
Sra. Barrett
