Week of December 7-11
1. Report Cards Quarter 1: 1st trimester report cards were mailed home
last Friday. Please take some time to review with your child their grades in
each of their classes. The beginning of the new trimester is a great time to
have your child think about some goals and improvements they can work on for
2nd trimester and beyond. Often times kids will write down their goals on a
piece of paper and tape it up in their bedroom, near their computer, or where
they do their homework to remind them of what they would like to get better
at. I have been asking kids to think about how they can put in their best
effort into the work they do in school but also out of school at home - this
includes working on the following effort goals:
Time - Being willing to budget the time to do the work to the standards
expected.
Focus - Doing work in a distraction-free environment.
Resourcefulness - Knowing what to do when stuck on work and how to get help.
Using feedback - Looking over suggestions and revisions so they know exactly
what to fix.
Commitment - Determined to do the best work they can.
Persistence - Trying different strategies to complete their work if the first
way does not work for them.
8th grade:
Next up in Spanish we will be talking about rooms of the house and the
project for this chapter wil be to design your dream house. We will also be
taking a short break from the book to create Christmas poems in Spanish.
During this time we will also be working on making comparisons and using
superlatives in Spanish.
The 7th grade did very well on their Chapter 1A test and have already
started Chapter 1B. We will be talking about how to describe ourselves and
our friends. We will also be taking some time out of the book to work on
making Christmas Cards in Spanish.
This week we will have a quiz on Wednesday and should be ready to take
the Chapter 1B test by next Monday.
In Religion the 7th grade will be talking about Advent. We are also
preparing the Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
The 6th grade began making their symbols for the Jesse Tree. We have
spoken about the ancestors of the church and which symbols remind them of the
different people of the Bible.
Have a good week!
