Dear Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back to school! First graders are already off to a
great 2010! We wrote terrific New Year Resolutions and we are all motivated
to reach our goals!
January promises new adventures for everyone!
Mystery Readers will start this month. Every Friday, we will try to guess who
our mystery reader is with clues. Then our Mystery Reader will stay and read
a story to the class. Maybe you would like to be our next Mystery Reader?
Book Reports will continue, but now we will be making Self-to-Text Connection
Book Reports. These will come home in about 2 weeks.
We will be starting Chapter 5 in Math: Place Value to 100. Please help your
child by practicing + & - math facts, counting by 2's, counting by 5's and
spelling number words!
We are wrapping up Reading Unit 3 and will begin Unit 4 in a couple weeks.
This is an important unit because I will be introducing 'magic e' and
starting out Fairy Tale genre study! I will be needing volunteers for this so
look for more information later!
This month and for the rest of the year, I am in need of volunteers to help
with small group reading on Tuesdays from 12:15 to 1 p.m. I already have a
parent coming in and it would be terrific if a couple more parents could join
us. If you are available during another time and would like to come in,
please let me know.
