When you are going offsite how do the students get there?

95% of the time if we are traveling off the property we will be taking a bus. The only time that we may need to drive is for the scavenger hunt and that will be done in small groups of the students choosing with CORI’ed adult volunteers over the age of 21 with each group.

Where should the money be sent/dropped off and when is it due by?

Money and permission slips for any event that requires advanced notice as marked on the calendar can be brought to the rectory during normal business hours.

Should the kids bring additional money for anything...a drink or snack, etc?

Whenever we go off property there are usually opportunities to buy food. If we are eating dinner off site at McDonalds for instance, we will allow the students to buy a meal (numbered meal) on the youth ministry program as part of their fee. If they would like anything additional they can purchase it at this time. I do discourage students from buying too much food as we don’t want any getting sick…

Are there chaperones, who are they, and how many are there on a typical event?

All of our chaperones are either staff of St. Mary’s parish or parent volunteers. It is essential that we have parents willing to go with us as we cannot run this program without you. All chaperones are CORI’ed before the event per diocesan regulations. Our normal ratio is 1 adult for every 7 youth. Due to people’s changing schedules etc. I cannot give out the names of who is going to be traveling with us before the event, (either parents or students) but all parents are welcome to join us on any event at no charge.

I have the schedule; will additional information be distributed prior to each event?

Our normal method of communication will be the parish bulletin. Also, for most events there is a flyer that you can get either at the back of the church or at the rectory. These flyers give more specifics about each event than would fit on the calendar.

The times, for example the corn maze says 6-10pm, does that mean the bus leaves St Mary's at 6pm and returns to St Mary's at 10pm?

Yes, but due to conditions beyond our control we may arrive or leave late periodically for events. For example, due to the short window of time for the corn maze, we will be eating first at six and then boarding the bus shortly thereafter.

Are students allowed to invite a friend from outside of St Mary's for MSYM events?

Yes, anyone can join as long as they have a signed permission form for off-campus events and are in either 7th or 8th grade.

Does my child have to attend all four years of the program if they attend Catholic school?

No. Even though Catholic schools DO NOT prepare students for Sacraments, there are a number of criteria that are waived for students attending Catholic schools. Please contact Bob Collins for details.

Why does the website not display properly on my computer?

On some computers the website doesn't display correctly. It appears that you if the browser on your computer is not updated then it won't display properly. You have to update your browser as this is not a problem with the site but with the computer.

How can I stay updated on events in the MS/HS Faith Formation program?

The primary means of communication is the bulletin as the Mass is the central part of our Catholic life. However, you can register for both the Facebook page and the Yahoo group. There is no way for us to add your email to the list.
