The Andover Public Schools have embraced a balanced approach to language arts instruction. A balanced approach incorporates independent reading and the sharing of that reading, teacher read-alouds, guided reading through small group instruction to enhance comprehension and reading ability, and specific word study and language activities. Students also engage in literature circles in which they have the opportunity to read and discuss books with their peers in small groups.
