Our spelling program uses rather the principles and strategies developed by Fountas and Pinnell. Our goal is to teach about words and how they work so that your children develop strategies that help them become good spellers.

We draw from two major sources for study:

• Core Words These words are drawn from the benchmarks and learning standards outlined for second grade study. We plan a weekly class lesson to teach a useful strategy, principle or pattern.
• Personal Words These words are drawn from the children's personal writing and high frequency word lists.

Week 12 Spelling Words

 

Principle:  Some words change their spelling when they become past tense.  They are called irregular verbs.
