NAME: Mrs. Friedman

SCHOOL: Sanborn School

CLASS: Second Grade

SCHOOL PHONE: 978-623-8860

Welcome to the wonderful world of second grade! I love teaching second
graders because they are naturally curious, have a love of learning, and are
incredibly enthusiastic! Second grade children are also learning to be
independent and responsible. I am excited about the opportunity to work
with your children and you this year.

I start each year by trying to get to know each of your children as
children (what they like, what they don’t like, who their friends are,
etc.) I feel it is important to know the whole child because it helps me to
reach the children as learners in my classroom.

I have a developmental approach to teaching. I realize that not all
children develop their skills at the same pace. Therefore, I try to build
time into the program to meet the needs of the children who are having
difficulty. At the same time, I build challenges into the program for those
children who complete their work and are looking for more to do. Not
everyone steps up to the challenge – but they are encouraged to do so.

My goal as a teacher is to inspire my students to learn and to
challenge them to reach their fullest potential. I encourage all children
to always do their best work. My expectations are high, but by setting them
high, I am letting the children know that I believe in them and think they
can do it! In order to learn, everyone in the class must and will be
encouraged to take risks. It’s okay to make mistakes in this class. I try
very hard to create a caring and nurturing environment so that everyone
feels safe and secure and not vulnerable when a mistake is made.

I believe that my students can reach outstanding heights in fulfilling
their potential when we (parents, students, and I) work together as a
team. Communication is the key to the success of this team. Please follow
this link to read more about the important role parents play in their
children’s success in school. http://www.nea.org/parents/ppower.html

On this web site, I will detail important information. New and
exciting information will be posted frequently. I will provide student
links pertaining to our units of study and photographs of classroom
activities. This site will be a valuable tool in keeping parents and others
informed about our classroom.

Our class will participate in many exciting things this year and
learning so,so much!!! The second grade curriculum is loaded, and we will
be working hard all year. I will share some of our wonderful projects and
activities through our "Lunch Buddies" program in which parents are invited
to join their children for lunch in the classroom and view the children's
work or presentations. I hope you will visit this web site often and enjoy
your many visits with us!
