Courses Taught

World Civilizations
The world that we live in today is created from the events and ideas of the past. Through our
exploration of the civilizations and events of the past we will develop a deeper understanding of the
world today as well as improve our skills as students, citizens, readers, public speakers, writers, and
historians. We will use the 8 themes of LEGGARTS to examine civilizations and eras
around the world. World Civilizations is aligned with the content, concepts and skills outlined in the
Massachusetts History and Social Science Frameworks. This course also incorporates many of the
expectations for student learning set forth by
Shrewsbury High School.

AP US History
Advanced Placement US History is designed to provide students with the analytical skills and factual
knowledge necessary to deal with issues in United States history from the age of discovery to the
present. It is also designed to prepare students for college by making demands upon them
equivalent to those made by full-year introductory college courses. Solid reasoning and writing
skills, along with a willingness to devote considerable time to homework and studying, are necessary
to succeed. This course also addresses several of Shrewsbury High School’s expectations for student
learning as outlined in the school’s mission statement.
