Newsletter for the week of: Week of November 30th~ December 4th
Welcome to Room 1 ~ "It's Kindergarten - a wonderful place to be...where
children grow and blossom".
Dates to remember:
Thursday,December 3rd – PTO meeting at 7:00 pm Free Babysitting
Friday, December 4th – Popcorn Friday! School Store is open!
I hope that you all enjoyed a Happy Thanksgiving and ate as much as I
did...it was wonderful! I also had the opportunity to escape for the extended
weekend with my husband to Nantucket and share in the Tree lighting and yes
we also did some shopping with our Vice President Joe Biden...it was kinda
cool to see him and his family celebrating the upcoming holidays and being
festive with all the Secret Service! I can't believe that December is already
right here!!
We will be sending home a note for each family to read and return regarding
the holidays your family celebrates this month to help us with our social
studies lessons on holidays and traditions. Thank you for a prompt response!!
In social studies and science, we will be discussing what animals do and how
they prepare for the winter to go with our story of the week “Bear Snores
On." This week we will also be focusing on a Gingerbreadman theme and we
will read numerous stories about the Gingerbread Man and do a Venn Diagram
of the stories so the children can see the differences and similarities
between them. We will also make fun arts and crafts with the gingerbread man
and participate in some measuring fun as well.
LITERACY:
Story of the Week: Bear Snores On
Phonics Skill: Cc
Amazing Words: sleep, cave, storm, winter, woods, blustery
High Frequency words: “we”, “my” and “like”
Comprehension Skill: Realism and Fantasy
MATH:
In math,I will be assessing children this week on different math concepts
that the children have learned (counting, reading and writing numbers,
identifying shapes, etc). I will also teach them a card game called “Top It’
which you may remember as “War”. This helps children identify numbers and
provide practice with telling which number is greater or less. I also plan
on introducing a number line to the children. A number line helps children
with counting skills (forward and backward) and can be used to help solve
addition and subtraction problems.
If you have any questions/concerns please contact me so we can address
them. I do try to respond on the same day/evening when possible. You may
contact me thru notes, phone781-344-7004 (ext#501) or e-mail:
