What a great weekend! I guess we may also enjoy some warmer temperatures
for the start of this week as well. This New England weather however does
make it crazy when dressing the children. Please remember that they are
outside each morning for a brief time before school and they do go outside
for recess most days. You may also want to dress them in layers as my
classroom tends to be quite warm and gets very dry.
This week our focus letter/sound is /s/. On Tuesday we would like to have
a "SILLY SOCK" day in which the children simply mix up their socks and wear a
mismatched pair of socks(EX: one red,one print)or they could wear 1 Halloween
1 sock,1 Snowman sock whatever just to help remember the /s/ sound!! It is
not necessary to buy new socks ...just mix them up!! Thank you:)
In social studies and science, we will start our Thanksgiving unit with a
focus on Native Americans this week and Pilgrims next week. We will read and
discuss stories about Native Americans, learn a little about how they used to
live vs. how they live now, and create several crafts. We will also teach
them games, (ie: "Earth, Fire, Water" (just like rock, paper, scissors). The
children always enjoy this unit. On Friday we will join both kindergarten
classes together and have an "Activity Day" where the children will
participate in four or five activities to help learn about the celebration
of Thanksgiving. The children will also be creating a special Thanksgiving
book this week and next to help them understand the importance of how and why
we celebrate this special day.

The children are doing a great job with remembering their sight words! I am
so proud of how they are beginning to read!!
MATH:
This week in math we will continue practice with writing the numerals with
correct formation...it takes time as this is probably the first time they
are actually asked to write numbers. We do a lot of practice writing numerals
on white boards in class and they love doing this!! We will also work on
games to recognize the value of a number and we will discuss the coin and
value of a penny.
Request: The class is getting low on napkins and tissues. I would appreciate
any donations for these items. Thank you.
