Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great winter vacation. I was happy to
relax with family. This week we will all be getting back into the school day
routines and schedules. After the high of the holidays and being on vacation
it takes a while to readjust to "reality" once again. We will start Unit 3 in
literacy and hopefully plan on beginning "Walk to Read" groups by mid January.
In social studies and science, we will talk about New Year’s resolutions and
have the children come up with their own resolution. We will also learn and
talk about Pandas ~ where they live, reading about baby pandas and watching
they grow, and what they eat.
In literacy, the story this is week is:
Story of the Week: Little Panda
Phonics Skill: Nn
Amazing Words: weigh, healthy, curious, measure, bamboo, explore
High Frequency words: “me”, “with”, “she”
Comprehension Skill: Compare and Contrast
In math, we will review the addition sign and introduce the subtraction sign.
We will incorporate the subtraction sign during calendar time. The children
love this activity, we will be exploring calculators and the children will
become familiar with how to turn the calculator on/off and how to clear a
calculator.
