I meant to write this in last week’s newsletter, at parent conferences I
wrote down a literacy website that I absolutely love and we will be using it
in the classroom. It is www.starfall.com. It goes from learning and
practicing letter names and sounds to reading small books. It is a free
website. The children really like this website try it at home. When the
children could not go on the field trip last month we had a great time putting
the kindergarten classes together and making fun but academic stations. We
would like to do this once a month and we will do stations this week with
Thanksgiving activities.
In social studies and science, we will start our Thanksgiving unit and learn
about Native Americans. We will read stories about Native Americans, how they
used to live vs. how they live now, and create crafts. We will also teach them
games, ie. Earth, Fire, Water (just like rock, paper, scissors). The
children always enjoy this unit.
In literacy, the story this is week is:
Story of the Week: Armadillo’s Orange
Phonics Skill: Ss
Amazing Words: armadillo, tortoise, grubs, burrow, rattlesnake, insects
High Frequency words: “have” and “is”
Comprehension Skill: Setting
****Since we are learning the letter S, please have your child wear silly
socks on Tuesday****
In math, I will be introducing the penny to the children. We will explore the
penny with magnifying lens and talk about what we see and write down the
characteristics of the penny. The children will learn about the heads and
tails side.
Thank you for everything and have a wonderful week!
