What is it?

The Massachusetts Book Award Program was created in 1975 by Salem State
College to encourage kids to read great books. It also gives kids a chance
to voice their opinion and choose the book that they think deserves to be
named Massachusetts Children's Book of the Year. Only kids are allowed to
vote.

Who may participate?

All students in grades four and five. Sorry, third graders. You will have
to wait until next year.

How do you participate?

Read any five books from the list of nominated books. You can go to this
web site at www.salemstate.edu/education/mcba/
and then click on Master List.

We have copies of all of the nominated books in our school library. All
public libraries have copies of these books, also.

Keep track of what you read by filling out a log sheet that you can get from
Mrs. J.

Can I read any five books?

Yes, any.

Read as many as you can!

What happens then?

You will receive an official ballot to cast your vote for your choice for
best book of the year. Also for every five books that you read, you will
earn a chance to win a $25 gift certificate for Barnes & Noble.

When will the drawing be held?

I will draw the winner of the gift certificate at our whole school
celebration for Dr. Seuss birthday on March 2, 2008.
