                                                          HOMEWORK CONTRACT AND  HOMEWORK  12/13/09

Because of the many special activies we have planned for the last week before Christmas vacation there will be no spelling words, homework or homework contract this week.  We will be having a week of review of short vowels, finish two reading stories, working on Christmas journal writing, taking a religion test on Christmas and the Holy Family, watching the Polar Express, completing various Christmas activities/projects and having our Christmas party.  Merry Christmas to all our families.

                                                            SOCIAL STUDIES TIMELINES 12/08/09

UPDATE REGARDING TIMELINES -  ALL TIMELINES SHOULD REMAIN IN THE FOLDERS FOR THE WEEK.  I WILL BE CHECKING THEM DAILY. SORRY THAT I DID NOT PUT THAT IN THE INSTRUCTIONS YESTERDAY.

Today your child will be bringing home a social studies paper on timelines which needs to be completed each day and returned on Friday of this week.  This project will be counted as a social studies grade.  We are learning about the past, present and future.  The timelines must be filled in daily.  I have provided a piece of drawing paper for this activity.  The drawing paper should be held horizontally.  The timeline must include the days of the week, a drawing and a sentence about the entry for the day.  Also please remember to keep the social studies paper in your child's folder as a study guide when we are finished with this unit.

                                                        READING INFORMATION

Beginning this week I will be sending home a Family Times page from our reading series.  This page will let you know what story we are working on for the week, will give you the skills we are working with, offer suggestions for things to do each day regarding these skills and also provide you with a game to practice these skills.  I am hoping that you will play these games and use the daily suggestions.  Please let me know what you think about these pages.  Together we can make your child a great reader.  Thanks for your help!

 BIRTHDAY INVITATION POLICY CHANGE

I have spoken to Mr. Pelletier regarding the birthday invitation policy in the student handbook and he has agreed to let first grade go back to my original policy regarding invitations -- AS LONG AS ALL CHILDREN ARE INVITED TO A BIRTHDAY PARTY I WILL PASS OUT INVITATIONS IN CLASS.  THERE ARE TWENTY-FIVE CHILDREN IN THE CLASS.  ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS WRITE THE INVITATION AND PLACE IT IN A BLANK  ENVELOPE WHICH I WILL PLACE IN THEIR FOLDERS.  IF NOT ALL TWENTY-FIVE CHILDREN ARE  INVITED TO THE PARTY I WILL NOT PASS OUT INVITATIONS AS THIS MUST BE DONE OUTSIDE ON THE PLAYGROUND ON YOUR OWN TIME.  I hope this helps with all our birthday celebrations.  I know that the children are always excited to invite friends to a birthday party but I do not want any child to feel left out.  Thanks,  Mrs. Lemieux
