INTRODUCTION: (What do you expect to learn? What is the purpose
of this lab?)
HYPOTHESIS: (Predict the outcome(s) of the experiment. Use ifthen
format.
For example, if I only water this plant once per month, then it
will become
brown.)
MATERIALS: (List all equipments and materials used for this lab.
List the
name and amount of each item used.)
PROCEDURES: (What steps did you take to accomplish this lab
assignment?
Please list every step.)
DATA RECORDING: (Record the data that is required at each step of
the lab:
tables, charts, graphs, sketches, etc.)
DISCUSS AND ANALYZE: (Explain data in words. Discuss what
happened in the
lab. Give details on anything that went wrong and why you think
that
happened.)
CONCLUSION: (What did you learn? What conclusions can you draw
from results
of this lab? Compare the results of the experiment with your
hypothesis
Important: This is a lab report template. That means that you use
it as a
guide for writing your lab reports all year. It is not to be
written on. You
must keep it in your science folder and not lose it. Your lab
reports must
be written neatly or typed answering each of the sections
completely for
full credit.

Dear Math/Science Students and Parents:
Welcome Back! I hope you had a wonderful, restful summer.
I will be your teacher for math and science this year.
For Math, we will be using the Holt Series. These texts
must be kept covered at all times. We will be reviewing the
Summer Math Packet, which students were to complete over the
summer. It will count for a grade. Everyone should have received
a supply list with tools needed for math including a calculator,
protractor, ruler, and lots of pencils. Mechanical pencils are
preferred. I do not accept math written in pen. I begin the 45
minute class discussing, correcting, and collecting the previous
day’s homework. Then I teach a new lesson and answer any
questions. Next you are given a textbook and workbook assignment.
There may also be worksheets or packets. You usually have time to
make a good start on this and complete the rest as homework. It
also gives you a chance to ask me to explain anything you don’t
understand.
I want you to come to me for help if you need it. Do not
be afraid to ask. There is a test at the end of every chapter and
occasional quizzes. It is important that you know your
multiplication tables. Students who have not memorized their math
facts by sixth grade seem to have more difficulties as the math
gets more complex in the middle school grades. I will be
available on certain days after school until 3:00. You must come
prepared with specific questions from math and science with which
you are having a difficult time. I am here to help those students
who are having problems understanding key concepts in those
subjects. I will post the day at school and on my website.
For Science, we will be using the Glencoe Science Voyages Series.
These texts must be kept covered at all times. I also ordered the
Scholastic ScienceWorld Magazine. Everyone must have a wire-bound
spiral college-ruled notebook for note taking. These will be
checked often and you will be graded. Make sure you pay close
attention, and take good notes during class. If you are absent,
you can get the notes from a classmate or see me. I begin the 45
minute class discussing, correcting, and collecting the previous
day’s homework. We read and discuss the material in class and you
are responsible for taking notes in your science notebooks. You
will be given section assessments and reinforcement worksheets to
start in class and complete as homework. Chapter Tests will be
given at the end of chapters and there will be occasional
quizzes. We will also have labs. Everyone will receive a lab
report template which you will keep as a sample guide for the
whole year. The Science Fair is a very exciting event and will
take place in January. Science Fair packets will be distributed
in November with complete details and requirements. This allows
plenty of time for a terrific project.
Thursday will be our computer day and I will teach both
Math and Science in the computer lab. This will begin in October.
The most important rule in the lab is to refrain from talking and
pay close attention. Only pencils are allowed in the lab. We will
visit websites, go on web quests, and complete interesting
assignments. It will be a new and exciting way to learn math and
science and I know you will enjoy computer day.
Homework is a very important part of the learning
process in middle school. My rules for homework are simple.
Complete the assignment properly and on time to receive full
credit. Homework assignments are due on the assigned due date.
Homework will be checked prior to class discussion. If homework
assignments are not passed in when due, the student receives a
zero homework grade. Three zero homework grades and
parents/guardians will be notified.
Students who are absent will be given time to make up
missed assignments. It is your responsibility to ask me for
missed work when you return to school. When students take
vacations that are not on scheduled school vacation dates, they
will not be given homework prior to leaving. The homework is
posted on the website on a daily basis. Homework will have to be
made up upon their return (Handbook page 8). Daily assignments
are written on the homework board and you need to copy them in
your student planner. I also post to my website. To access this
online, go to www.sfxacushnet.org. Click on assignments then 6,
7, 8 math science. On the left, homework is listed. Click on
homework to see math and science homework assignments. I also
will post upcoming tests to give you ample time to study. My
email address is nforsblom@sfxacushnet.org.
The best way to have a successful year is to complete
homework assignments on time, study for tests early, and stay
organized. Be aware of the No Backsies Rule. Once you leave a
class to travel to your next teacher, you cannot return to your
homeroom for forgotten items. It is very disruptive to have
students return to rooms once the bell has rung and learning has
begun. Another important rule to remember is to respect your
classmate’s right to learn. Socializing during class will cause
you both to miss key information. You have lots of time to talk
during break, lunch, and before and after school.
I am looking forward to a fun and exciting academic year.
Please do not hesitate to ask me for help. I am here to teach and
I know you will enjoy your time in my class. Let’s get busy.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Forsblom
