WEEK OF DECEMBER 14 - 18
SPELLING THIS WEEK - NONE
MONDAY, DECEMBER 14
Today, the class had a rehearsal for tomorrow's musical and music class,
also. Due to the interruptions in the schedule this week, there will not
be any spelling. The time will be dedicated to completing the endangered
specie project.
There isn't any homework tonight.
REMINDER:
Students who have gym class tomorrow please bring your uniform to change
into before the pageant.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15
MATH - worksheet
Multiplication of decimals by 10, 100, and 1000
Do 1-21 and the three word problems.
SCIENCE - Endangered Species
You should be done writing your paragraphs for physical traits,
habitat, prey/predator relationship, and habits and behavior.
Tomorrow, you should be finishing reproduction, adaptations, and
status on the planet.
* As you finish writing each topic, type it and save each one
individually. This will save you a lot of time!
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16
MATH - worksheet
Multiplication of decimals by a whole number
Estimate and multiply problems 10-28 even and word problems.
Do the work on a separate piece of paper.
SCIENCE - Endangered species
Finish writing the remainder of your topics and begin typing them.
SINGLE SPACE and use 14 FONT. Leave room on each page for a
picture. If your text goes on to the next page, put the photo on the
second page.
** Parents and guardians can certainly help type each page or can
alternate typing paragraphs with your child. Please leave the
editing to the child, however. At the top of each page should be a
heading of the topic. The font and color can vary for each heading.
At the end of the project, the two fifth grade classes adopt
an endangered specie through World WildLife Fund. Each student
contributes $3 and pools their money to adopt a specie which they
select in class.
5B voted today to adopt the koala. Tomorrow, 5a will vote for their
specie.
If you would like to know more about adopting a specie, you can go to
this website; just copy and paste the address.

RETURNED TESTS - today
READING - my group
Scholastic News Test
* Mrs. Scanlon administered this test and forgot to tell the
students the vocabulary words appeared in context. When I
graded the tests, the average was a 64, so I scaled each
test ten points. When I passed back the tests, they told me
about the words in context. I decided not to count the
vocabulary section unless the student did well. So, please
ignore the score if it is low. The comprehension part will
count.
SPELLING - 5A
Unit 10 tests and sentences - Returned yesterday.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18
MATH - worksheet
Multiplying a Decimal by a Decimal
Do the work on a separate piece of paper and estimate also.
Do problems 4-20.
* EXTRA HELP WILL BE NEXT MONDAY TO REVIEW FOR TUESDAY'S TEST.
SCIENCE - Endangered species
All the topics should be written by now. Remember to rearrange your
sentences so they all don't begin like this: The grey wolf - It is.
You can take the end of the sentence and make it the beginning.
Ex. The gray wolf eats caribou, elk, and deer.
Caribou, elk, and deer are a delicious meal for the gray wolf.
* Please don't print your pages with pictures until you edit
them. The best way to edit is to read your report out loud and
then use spell check and grammar check, which can be found on the
tool bar under edit.
* Some students have finished typing their topics and are ready to
download pictures. One way to do this is to find the picture, right
click on copy and then go to the document and paste it. Make sure you
have the cursor in the place you want the picture to go before you
click aste. I will demonstrate this in class and how to make the
cover page tomorrow.
