I attended St. Thomas from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I went on to become valedictorian of my graduating class at Cathedral High School in 1996, and then graduated with honors from Duke University in 2000. I have spent over five years as a Major League pitcher and am currently under contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
"I can't stress how important my years at St. Thomas were in preparing me for high school, college, and life as a pro baseball player. The well rounded approach to education helped shape the person I became and prepared me for the challenges I would face in the classroom, on the baseball field and among my friends and classmates. The years I spent at St. Thomas gave me the mental and spiritual tools I needed to excel in high school and then in college. I feel extremely fortunate to have been a part of the St. Thomas community."
Chris Capuano, Major League Pitcher, Milwaukee Brewers, Class of 1992
"I am very thankful for my time at St. Thomas and the strong Catholic values and future goals I received from the school. From second grade, I was confident that I would pursue a career in veterinary medicine working to help animals. My teachers and mentors helped me to achieve my long term goals and always encouraged me to strive to be a well rounded student. St. Thomas gave me the tools I needed to succeed as I continued on to attend Cathedral High School, Mount Holyoke College and finally Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine where I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1995. I do not believe I would be where I am today practicing in my field without the help of my St. Thomas mentors. I cannot thank them enough for all they did for me over the years. I try to give back now that my two children are presently enrolled at St. Thomas. I want them to receive the same educational opportunities."
Renee Slowick, DVM, Class of 1983
"I am very thankful for my years spent at St. Thomas the Apostle School. The quality education I received and the study habits I learned at St. Thomas gave me the foundation to succeed in high school and ultimately led to my acceptance to my first choice of college. Alongside academics, St. Thomas stressed the importance of faith, community service and respect toward others. I will always be indebted to the teachers at St. Thomas School for their dedication to education, character building and most importantly, faith. My experience at St. Thomas is one that I will carry with me through my life."
James Aylward, Midshipman, U. S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, Class of 2004
"Having attended St. Thomas for nine years was a wonderful and rewarding experience. My teachers were spectacular and to this day I continue to pursue becoming a teacher because of them. St. Thomas was and is a great school to this day."
Erin Johnson, Class of 2003
"My experience at St. Thomas was terrific. The teachers challenged us to reach our full potential and prepared me for my future at Cathedral and the University of Hartford. I get that proud feeling each time I drive by St. Thomas when I'm home for a visit."
Mark Baldyga, Founder and CEO, SandCastle Entertainment Complex, Guam, Las Vegas and Osaka, Japan, Class of 1976
"In addition to providing me with a quality education, St. Thomas helped to instill the faith based values system that guides my life today. Both have played an integral role in my development as a person and in my success as a professional."
Denise Egan Stack, Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and Researcher, McLean Hospital, Belmont, MA, Class of 1986
"I received my primary education from St. Thomas School and was also a second generation student. I’m thankful that my parents valued a faith based education and understood the importance of the ‘little something extra’ we received known as discipline and respect. When deciding where to send my children to school, there was not even a second thought given to where they’d go. The world may be a different place than it was in the 70s but manners, respect for self and others and learning in a loving environment are timeless blessings."
Julie Dow, Class of 1979
"It was in my early training at St. Thomas that the Sisters instilled in me the Christian values and principles that have served me a lifetime. The discipline, and at the same time, the gentleness of the wonderful Sisters of St. Joseph enabled me to better face life’s ups and downs. I recall an instance at AIC years later when I was called on to answer a question. When I got up from my seat, the instructor looked at me and said, ‘You must be from a parochial school,’ and I proudly pronounced that I was. The automatic reaction, and the show of respect it contained is a single example of what my years at St. Thomas did for me. I will always be proud to say I graduated from St. Thomas School."
