PTO 2009-2010 Planning Meeting – August 2009

Meeting Notes:

 

1)      Spirit Days - It was decided that the spirit days would switch from one day each month to one week of Spirit Week.  It will take place from March 15th – 18th.

2)      Open House – Takes place October 1st 6-7:30 pm.  Still $5.00 membership agreed upon, and will set up tables for PTO information.  In addition, tables will be set up in cafeteria to sell raffle tickets for fall foliage basket and 50/50 raffle.  $1.00/ticket for 50/50, and $1.00/ticket or $5.00/arms length for basket.  *Dave will call for donations on the basket, Missy will donate tastefully simple products, other things to go in basket include candle, fall oriented theme.

3)      Committee for bylaws – Committee of 5 people needs to be set up to review bylaws: 2 active PTO members, 2 newer PTO members, and at least 1 school rep. Ms. Wilson will check with teacher volunteers at the staff meeting, Dave Munson volunteers as well as Laura Allen and Rachel Douglas.

4)      Fundraisers – Begin the year selling candy bars: 56 boxes/case but only have to sell 54. (Pay $27 and they pay us back $56).  Selling for $1.00/box. *Letter will be going home to inquire about who will sell – in welcome letter to PTO made by Sue and Debbie.  Begin selling candy bars around September 19th and will go through three weeks – leads to October 3rd.    *All other fundraisers will take place as the year progresses (calendars to coincide with holidays, K of C January (Laura Allen will find out date, which is already booked), Barnes and Noble already booked for November 7th.  Stay tuned for other important dates.

5)      TaeKwon Do – Ken came to provide information that was discussed with Ms. Wilson earlier this summer.  Decided that TaeKwon Do will take place throughout the course of the school year for all the kids.  PTO will do a cost share with school fund 50/50 for buying the uniforms that will stay at the school for all the kids.  Talked about a kick a thon to raise money (discussed at a later PTO date).  Two grades will participate at a time for 8 weeks: once a week for 45 minutes.  Schedule as follows: 2nd and 5th grade first beginning Sept. 16th, 1st and 3rd second, then k and 4th.  *Important note: want the teachers to give a weekly report about how the class is going, what is going well and where the problems are.  Will incorporate their report into the weekly groups.  Ms. Cresione and Ms. Harrington will be participating with the kids during the weekly lessons.  *References for TaeKwon Do are ustef.org and koreanculture.org.

6)      Santa Shop – Debbie and Missy are still going to coordinate this year, and $1200 was approved for money to purchase items for Santa shop.  Shopping is almost complete for this year, just need to get inventory of what from last year.  Noted that need to make sure enough animal and kids toys, which Debbie has already put more into the purchase this year.

7)      Talent Show – Idea came up of doing a talent show, and everyone in attendance likes the idea.  Possibility of having the talent show on March 12th to kick off the following week of Spirit Week.  Can sell tickets for $2/each.

8)      T-Shirt Sales ­– Ms. Wilson is going to have different logos for the t-shirts to coincide with PTO shirt sales for more variety. 

9)      PTO Meeting Dates - Changing PTO meeting dates to the 2nd Wednesday of every month.  Changing November’s meeting to November 12th due to Veteran’s holiday and December’s meeting to December 7th followed by set up for Santa Shop.

**Addendum: PTO approved to change dates of meetings from the 2nd Wednesday of every month to the 2nd Thursday of every month.  Dates above for November and December still apply.

10)  Box Tops – Dave Munson will continue to monitor this again this year.  Will continue to have the Streiber bucks and the kids can shop every Friday morning.  Tom L. will continue to keep track of the kids “money.” Will set up a form for the kindergarten classes to orient them to the box tops and Streiber bucks. 

11)  Labels for Education – PTO (Dave Munson and Paula Dumas)will take over this job.  As of right now, our school has 20,000 points, and can use that money to purchase things for the school.

12)  Lastly Kindergarten Party - Holding a kindergarten meet and greet for the parents to get to know each other.  Date set for October 8th from 6-7:30 at the school.  Ms. Allen will let her parents know about this next week.

 

 

Miscellaneous Topics:

1)      PTO will fund 2 industrial sized fans for the cafeteria. 

2)      Dave Munson will get head start on contacting Mr. Tetreault for the horses for the sleigh rides at evening with Santa.

3)      Bingo for Books will happen in November, and Laura Allen will check on inventory for the books that we currently have.
