Which students are eligible for the Title I Program?

Eligibility is determined through multiple criteria including
classroom performance, test scores, assessment results, and
teacher recommendations. Classroom teachers refer students to
the program if there is a need for supplemental support in the
literacy program.

When a student is in Title I, do they stay in it until fifth grade?

Our Title I Program begins in Grade 1 and continues throughGrade
4. Your child will stay in the program for as long as it takes
to become successful and reach grade level benchmarks. If a
child has met grade level benchmarks, then the classroom teacher
in consult with the Title I Reading Specialist will discontinue
a child that has met with success.

What programs do you use to supplement the reading program?

We use many different programs based on the needs of the
students. We are using the Strategic Intervention Kit to
supplement our new reading program. It reinforces skills,
vocabulary, and comprehension. We supplement using the Wilson
Fundations Program for students struggling with phonics and
spelling. We use the Early Success Reading Program for some
students in Grades 1+2 to help with decoding, reading, sight
words, and writing. We use the Soar to Success Program with
some students in Grades 3+4 to help with reading and
comprehension. All students work in leveled books during guided
reading time so that they are reading on their instructional
reading level. If a student has difficulty with fluency, then
we use the Read Naturally Program to help them read with fluency
and intonation.
