WELCOME TO THE TAFT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TITLE I PROGRAM WEB PAGE! Title I is the largest federally funded program for education in our nation. The Title I funding helps local schools provide equal educational opportunities for low performing students in schools with economic need. The goal of the Title I Program is to enable all students to reach grade level benchmarks for the district and the state. Teachers are committed to providing high quality, engaging instruction that motivates students to succeed. Our Title I Program at Taft Elementary School provides extra reading instruction to selected students who are identified as having the greatest need in literacy development. This need is determined through multiple criteria including test scores, assessment results, and teacher recommendations. The Title I staff consists of reading specialists who work with students within the regular classroom. They consult with the classroom teachers on a weekly basis to plan for and assess each student's progress. Our main goal is to increase each student's literacy skills. Parents also play an important role in the program. They are encouraged to participate in their child's education by reading to and with their child at home. They are also encouraged to help with their child's homework in order to stay in touch with the classroom and the curriculum. Parents are welcome to volunteer doing various activities at school. The Title I Program has an Open House each fall where parents meet the reading specialists and learn about what the program has to offer.
