TAUNTON HIGH MARKETING EDUCATION PRACTICUM –

SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISE GRADE

COURSE REQUIREMENTS & GRADING for School Year 2008-2009

This is the "Shop" part of the 10 Credits that you can receive for this school year.  The Marketing Education CLASS GRADE is explained on another sheet.

You earn FIVE Credits for the "PRACTICUM" or SHOP grade.  You must "work" as close to 126 HOURS PER YEAR as possible for those FIVE CREDITS.  Too much time from the CLASSROOM or SCHOOL STORE could prevent you from getting those Five Credits.

EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS   The Mass. Dept. of Education now MANDATES that Vocational Technical Programs Teach and Grade Students on Employability Skills.   This will be a minimum of 33% of each component of your overall GRADE below.  In other words EVERYTHING You do either in the STORE, in the Classroom either while doing Textbook work or School Based Enterprise work will be graded according to the Vocational Education Curriculum Frameworks as prepared by the Mass. Dept. of Education.        http://www.doe.mass.edu/cte/frameworks/marketing.doc

¨      25% of the PRACTICUM  GRADE =  SCHOOL STORE WORK

**  75% SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISE – PROJECT ACTIVITIES spread out between the following factors:

SBE CLASS WORK -  MANDATORY

This 75% is generated from the following:

20% * SENIOR CAREER PORTFOLIO – Students must complete portfolio that meets the criteria of the Dept. of Education.

It will be converted to a CD and students can bring it to Job Interviews and include it with College Applications.

20% * PARTICIPATION in PLANNING ACTIVITIES   Students will continue what they began in MEI COOP.

Participation will be graded using the same criteria as last year.

20% * Skill Assessment – The Mass. Dept. of Ed. Is still creating methods of assessing skills – We will use Rubrics.

20% * SBE Portfolio Content – see below

20% * Testing – Periodic testing of knowledge of key planning decisions and the logic behind them.

Maintaining your SBE FOLDER with:   See note in box above about purchasing a Plastic 12 pocket Portfolio

* HANDOUTS -  You must keep ALL HANDOUTS from projects in your colored folder.  You can use them when taking SBE

TESTS.  They will also help you better understand the SBE Activities.

* PLANNING NOTES  A major part of this course is the Classroom planning that takes place.  YOU PLAY A MAJOR ROLE in

these DECISIONS.  Small group discussions, and other techniques will be used.  Teams record ideas on sheets, and FLIP

CHART SHEETS on the Board.  You must write down that information AND UNDERSTAND IT.

* TESTS on FOLDER CONTENT You will be tested on SBE Planning.  Questions will be based on FOLDER CONTENTS.

* SBE After School EVENT WORK  15 - 30 Hours Required – Participating in DECA District or State Competition will meet that requirement.

DECA Activities -  The THEME OF THS THIS YEAR is “A Connected Student is a Successful Student”   Students in Marketing automatically become members of DECA

We have said many times that when you do a WRITTEN REPORT for English or Social Studies you get a grade.  When you do a WRITTEN REPORT for DECA, you might be able to go to ATLANTIA this year!

You get extra HOURS credited to you and YOUR GRADE Usually GOES UP based on DECA work.  This work usually meets the Performance Standards of the Marketing Curriculum.  Again, if you disrupt activities or BREAK a DECA RULE you will be Disciplined and maybe Suspended.

DECA TRAINING MATERIALS – Students will use many of the newly obtained DECA TRAINING MATERIALS to prepare for various competitions beginning in JANUARY and continuing on to APRIL.

Video Programs, Practice Tests, Practice Role-plays, and other activities will be used in the CLASSROOM to prepare students.

DECA Officers will be chosen for each class and meetings held in class to discuss SBE Projects.  The Dept. of Education Frameworks has sections on “Business Meetings” and “Parliamentary Procedure” which students will learn by taking part in the DECA “Co-curricular” activities.

Students from TauntonHigh School have regularly attended many DECA activities:
