FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Where can I get more information about the Marketing Education Program at THS? The Program is a "Chapter 74 Approved" Vocational program. Most students enroll in the program for 2 full years. It's like a "Shop" program at Bristol/Plymouth. Please go to www.tigerdeca.org and look for the links that explain how the program operations. The Massachusetts Department of Education and the U.S. Congress recognize "Vocational Student Organizations". They are "Co-Curriculur" in that the activities available to students will reinforce the curriculum material taught in the classroom. Again, feel free to go to either of these web sites: www.tigerdeca.org or www.deca.org to find out more about this dynamic program. Do other high schools in this area have DECA programs also? Yes, and the number of schools involved is growing. Over 55 schools in Massachusetts have DECA programs. Middleboro HS, Norton HS, Dighton Rehobeth HS, Apponoquet HS, Somerset HS, Dartmouth HS, Wareham HS, Brockton HS, Southeastern Regional, Stoughton HS, and the list goes on. What is the DECA Initiation and Installation Ceremony about? Usually in late October or early November (probably after the City Elections this year) we will have a special evening in the School Auditorium. Our students will be introduced and seated on the stage. They will tell family, friends, teachers, city officials, and special guests what DECA is all about. They will be "Sworn-in" as Members and our DECA Chapter Officers will be sworn in also by MASS-DECA State Officers. Our Headmaster Mr. Mattos will lead them in a very moving Candle ceremony. We are working on a guest speaker for this year. In past years. we've had the Senator's John Parker, Marc Pacheco, Ted Aleixo, and Mayor's Bob Nunes, Ted Strojney, Dick Johnson, and some special guests like former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn, and Cardinal Sean O'Malley (when he was Bishop of Fall River). Your ideas for guest speakers are certainly welcome. |
