Next stop: State championship

By AUSTIN F. and MATT M.

Cunniff Kids News staff reporters

The Watertown Squirt A hockey team is going to play for the state championship March 14-16, most likely in Danvers.

The team is made up of 11 9-, 10-, and 11-year-olds – including one girl.  Nine of the players are from Watertown, and six of those are from the Cunniff School. The other two players are from Brighton and Framingham.

The team advanced by beating Billerica, 2-1, on Jan. 23 in Billerica. The coach of the Billerica team, Tom Johnson, is a physical education teacher at the Watertown Middle School.

This group has never been to a state tournament since it started playing together when they were 6.
