Vocabulary word - proper

If something is proper, it is the right or correct way of doing it.

Ask your child to demonstrate the proper way of shaking someone’s hand.

Vocabulary word – cooperate

If you cooperate with someone, you work with them to help them to get something done.

Recall with your child a time when you cooperated to do something. Think of another project you could do together.

Welcome to Vocabulary, Feb. 2010

“How can sophisticated words become part of children’s “mental dictionaries?” Since young children’s oral competence develops in advance of their literacy competence-they can think and talk about much more sophisticated ideas then they are able to read on their own. We can take advantage of their listening and speaking abilities to enhance their vocabulary development.”

                                      ~ Isabel L. Beck, Ph. D. & Margaret G. McKeown, Ph. D.

Vocabulary word - expression

Your expression is the look on your face that shows what you are feeling.
