An important third grade skill is learning to organize and time management. In an effort to
begin learning and practicing this process student will be writing down the homework
assignments nightly in their hw log. This log is designed to be a checklist so that students can
check off each star as they complete the assignment. Parent only need to initial once per day,
not every assignment is needed. The hw log should stay in the binder daily so that we can use
it each day. Every Monday a new sheet will be put into the protector.
Homework is designed to be an independent practice of the learning that has happened
recently. It is not designed to be stressful. I encourage parents to help students prioritize the
habit of completing independently to help them learn how to manage the work and time needed
to complete tasks.
Homework Assignments generally follow this time frame:
1. Read for 20 minutes or more each night. (For pleasure and enjoyment)
2. Have 20-30 minutes of math work
3.. Spelling homework M-W, study for Friday, study or practice assignment
4. Practice fast math facts +/- for 5-10 minutes nightly.
