2/25/13: Are you a 10+ year old interested in Legos and Engineering?  Have your parent or guardian sign you up to volunteer at MIT (ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult). Older students can attend solo:

Saturday, March 9:  Education/Lego Volunteer Opportunity

Assemble Lego Amino Acids at MIT

9:30 am to 12:30 pm OR 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Help build, check, and label Lego amino acids that will be used in cool Lego science learning kits for high school students.  Invented by Dr. Kathy Vandiver, the full contents of the kits represent DNA, RNA, proteins, and various atoms which can be used to model molecular processes for DNA replication and gene expression.

To register, please go to http://s.zoomerang.com/s/pmd030913 by March 1st!

2/10/13: I HAVE RECEIVED A DOZEN OR SO EMAILS FROM PEOPLE TODAY (SUNDAY) STATING THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH CATCHUP MATH. I JUST TRIED TO ACCESS IT AND COULD NOT. IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE STORM, OR A SYSTEM UPGRADE PERFORMED THIS WEEKEND. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY ISSUES ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY USING THE SITE TO CHECK COMPLETED STUDENT WORK. I HAVE PLACED A PHONE CALL TO CATCHUP MATH TELLING THEM OF OUR ISSUE (JUST IN CASE THE PROBLEM IS SPECIFIC TO OUR SCHOOL ACCOUNT AND NOT THE ENTIRE SITE). HOPEFULLY, YOU CAN ACCESS THE SITE TOMORROW (MONDAY) TO COMPLETE YOUR WORK (IF YOU HAVE NOT YET DONE SO) MANY OF YOU HAVE FINISHED.

12/3/12: After School Help this week has to be on Friday until 3:00/3:15. There is no late bus on Friday, so if you do not normally walk home or get a ride, see if you can arrange a ride or get permission to walk if you plan to stay for help.

11/19/12: There will be a quiz on Wednesday this week on Lessons 3.1 and 3.2 in the book. Pages 113-119, your Study Guide and Intervention worksheet from today, and tomorrow's Skill Practice and Problem Solving Practice worksheets are GREAT resources for the types of problems you will encounter on the quiz.

Early Release Wednesday at 11:30. Lunch WILL NOT be served.

No School Thursday or Friday.

___________________________________________________________

11/5/12: Today, we gave conference time slips to students with appointments on Wednesday the 7th and Thursday the 8th. Please ask your child if they received a slip from us today. All other appointment slips will be going home on Wednesday.

Also, we no longer have evening appointment slots.

10/31/12: A conference information letter went home with your child today. You must return the bottom portion for us to be able to do our best to accommodate your preference for an afternoon or evening conference. Evening slots are limited. We will do our best to accommodate all. To have the best opportunity to have your preference met, return your slip ASAP.

10/22/12: We've been talking about it for a few weeks now (ever since we began working in the customized Review 1 program of Catch up Math...your first Unit Test will take place this Thursday and Friday. We worked on some problems in class today, and you are continuing the preparation by completing your Binder Quest tonight. Review will continue tomorrow and Wednesday.

10/19/12: Order of Operations was fun this week. You are all doing great, and I love that so many of you enjoy working through expressions with variables as well! Nice work! I have posted the worksheet with the 24 problems we used and the work with the answers pages on the Worksheets, etc page. You can print this out to use as a reference or just check it against the work you do at home in case you didn't finish up in class.

10/5/12: Progress Reports went home today and are due back signed Wednesday.

10/5/12: No School Monday due to Columbus Day and no school for students on Tuesday due to a Faculty Professional Development Day.

10/4/12: CA1 is due tomorrow. The majority of you have turned it in already. Nice job! Most of the remainder of you only have a few more problems to complete. I am so proud of how well you have followed my suggested plan for breaking down a large assignment into smaller parts to complete it over the week rather than waiting until the last night.

10/4/12: I added a link to access Catch up Math on a mobile device. Use that URL (http//:m.catchupmath.com) if using an iPad, iTouch, iPhone, Droid, or any other mobile device to access Catch up Math.

10/1/12: I gave students a packet entitled CA1 today. They began it in class. The entire packet is due on Friday. All answers must be on the answer sheet provided. Work is to be done in the packet. The answer sheet is to be stapled to the front of the packet.

Also, I spoke to kids about what they were missing today. Progress Reports are going home Friday. These will need to be signed and returned.

9/28/12: It was a pleasure meeting many parents and guardians last evening at Back to School Night. Feel free to contact me any time you have the need. Just to let you know, we were in the computer lab today, and I forgot to distribute missing work reports, I will send them home on Monday. If your child knows s/he has missing work without the report, see about having it taken care of this weekend to avoid receiving the report. Thank you.

9/27/12: Great job today with using Catch up Math for the first time. You all made great use of your time in the Mac Lab. We will visit it again tomorrow. Remember, you can use this awesome program anywhere you have an Internet connection.

REMINDER: There are two long-term items due soon
...

1) Your Multiplication Madness Report Card is due by this Friday (9/28/12). Several of you have already handed them in. If you do not have access to a printer at home, you can still use the Report Card feature and instead of printing it, use the pdf option and save it to your computer and email it to me as an attachment to: jane.evans@watertown.k12.ma.us. If you do not have Internet access, you need to see me to make alternate arrangements as I have been stating since we began this work on the 17th.

2) Your Rectangular Arrays with factor, prime/composite, odd/even, square information are due by next Monday (10/1/12).

We are off to a great start! The majority of you are doing very well keeping yourselves and our space organized, opening your combination locks, and getting to class on time! I'm impressed! Keep up the good work!

Welcome to the 2012 - 2013 School Year!
