Fill in the missing numerator or denominator to make a pair of equivalent fractions. Remember form our word bank that equivalent fractions are fractions representing the same value. For example, 2/4 and 6/12 are equivalent fractions. I know this because if I simplify 2/4 and 6/12, they both equal 1/2. So, if I was given... &#9633;/4 = 6/12, I could divide 12 by 4 and get 3, then I could divide 6 by 3 to get the missing numerator 2. This means &#9633; = 2. This is a special program set up for tonight's homework to preview lessons on the Distributive Property and other Properties of Multiplication. These are the only two lessons in this program. The Distributive Property lesson has one video to watch. The Properties of Multiplication lesson has three videos...I thought it was one video with all topics, but they broke it into three...same thing but better because it is organized. :) The goal of this assignment is to preview these properties and then write a brief summary of what you took away from the preview process. Try to explain what you understood and still are not sure of about the topics. You will not come away from this as experts in all areas. You are simply trying to get a jump on topics we are about to cover in class. So do your best to understand and summarize but don't stress over it. Start by watching the video portion of each lesson once through. Then watch one of them a second time. This time you should pause it at times you need to write something you feel is important to share in your summary. Continue this until you have completed a summary on this first topic. Then repeat the process for the next video topic, and repeat until done or 30 minutes has passed of SOLID working time. If you are unable to write what you feel I would consider an acceptable summary by only watching the videos, you could also use the text lessons and questions (with answer hints) to help you summarize each topic. The text lessons are helpful in that there are definitions of the properties you can use in your summary. You can do this by either printing the Worksheets, etc list (click printable version at bottom of page) and use it as a checklist, or just read the list on the screen if you do not have a printer. Go through each item by clicking on it in the Worksheets, etc page to see what you are looking for in your binder. Some links have more than one pdf page, so scroll to the bottom of the pages once they come up on the screen to make sure you have everything. Once you have it, check it off on your printed list or just continue through the list on the screen. If you come to something you cannot locate in your binder, print a new copy of it for your binder. If it is a worksheet, you should redo it as practice for your test before Thursday. You can then check your answers with a classmate or with me. If you do not have a printer, make a list of what you are missing, and show me tomorrow. We will find the time for you to get the pages you are missing...within reason. If you have an organized binder, this process should move along quickly. Use whatever time you have remianing for math homework to work in Catch up Math. If you make it to Catch up math tonight, work in the Review 1 program. So if the packet takes you 30 minutes, then don't do Catch up Math unless you want to and have the time after your other work is done. Also complete the square number information for the&nbsp;seven square numbers&nbsp;that exist from 1 - 50. Follow the format for doing this that I gave you as an example for the square number 1. Be sure to place an X in the column if&nbsp;a number is not a square number. Then, answer the two questions on the bottom of the last page. _______________________________________________________________________________ Monday, 9/17/12: Complete the double-sided Multiples and Common Multiples worksheet. Be thoughtful and thorough in your written responses on the back side. Use math vocabulary and be sure to restate the question as part of your answer. ALSO: Practice math facts for 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 by using Multiplication Madness on my Links page. Go straight to the Test feature for each. Ideally, you should be able to complete each section and score 100% in under 30 seconds for each of these first sets of facts.&nbsp; If you struggle with any sets of facts, try using the Study and Drill features for them as well and then retake the test. You can also print the 12 x 12 Multiplication Grid I have posted on my Worksheets, etc page to study. If you did not complete your binder cover in class, please complete it by Monday.: Spend 10-15 minutes using Multiplication Madness on my links page. Start with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5s. Go right to the test feature for all. Move on to the next set of facts once you have 100% in the previous. If you get stuck on any one table of facts, use the practice and drill features, and then try the test again. Ideally, you should be scoring 100% in under 30 seconds on each. _______________________________________________________________________________ Thursday 9/6/12: Please bring in a 1 subject notebook by Monday. 70-100 pages is good. Make sure the spiral portion is small so it fits in the rings of your binder. :)
