This is my ninth year teaching seventh grade viewpoints at the Watertown
Middle School. Before teaching, I worked in entertainment field and in
educational television production. Outside of teaching, I enjoy cooking,
gardening, going to the movies, and playing soccer.
In seventh grade, your language arts and social studies courses are combined
in a fully interdisciplinary course called Viewpoints, which allows us to
combine the two subjects in ways that will help your learning.
It's important to remember that language arts and social studies are about
understanding the messages around you, and using your voice to communicate
your ideas to others. The ideas, questions and opinions that you have are
important. This year you will have many opportunities to have your voice
heard in class, in small groups, and in making formal presentations to the
class.
This will be a year of fun and challenge. In fact, our studies this year
will be tied together by a central question – How do challenges or adversity
in our lives shape or change us as people? We will be coming back to this
question throughout the year as you experience challenges yourself in both
your personal and academic life. You can expect that we will all learn many
new things from one another. Ultimately, as a group and as individuals, we
want each and every one of you to be expressive, questioning and
participating citizens. Let's see what we can do to make that happen here in
our classrooms!
