My name is Phil Oates. I was born and raised in Watertown and graduated from
Watertown High School in 2001. I went to Tufts and got my BS in mathematics
in 2005. My first year out of school I was a Title I math tutor at WMS.
After that, I spent two years teaching at the High School Extension Program in
Cambridge. Now, I am back where I want to be, in my second full year teaching
at Watertown Middle School. I coach three sports in Watertown. I do high
school football, middle school basketball, and middle school baseball.
7th grade is an important math year.(yes all math years are important too) We
will be honing your skills from past years. We will spend a lot of time
working on negative numbers. We will spend time on probability and
statistics. Our students will start to become more familiar with solving for
X and graphing.
Most importantly, we will be working on having students become more
comfortable with math and have them work their way into being ready for 8th
grade Algebra.
