The 4K Newscast
This year as part of our current events curriculum, there is a component that we are calling the
4K “Newscast”. This Newscast will allow students the opportunity to choose and
read an article of interest and share a summary of the article in the form of a television broadcast.
The audience will then have a Q & A session and an opportunity to comment on the Newscast.
Each Monday, four students will be assigned a topic. The students will be required to find and
read an article from a newspaper, magazine, or the Internet and write a one to two paragraph
summary on the article. When they have completed the summary, the students should practice
reading it aloud in preparation for Friday afternoon’s Newscast. Students are also encouraged to
bring in props, pictures, or even costumes that might enhance their report!
The topics are:
• National News (United States only)
• International/World News (All places except the U.S.)
• Health or Science - your choice
• Arts/Sports/Leisure - your choice
Each “Newscaster” is required to have the following for their newscast:
• An article (neatly cut or printed out)
• A rehearsed written summary of the article on note cards or paper
• An understanding of the story in order to answer questions
• Props to accompany report are OPTIONAL.
Have fun with it and be prepared! We look forward to some interesting and informative stories.
