Homework

Homework is an important component in every fifth grade student's academic
career. Homework will be assigned five days a week and should take
approximately 45-60 minutes to complete. Students will document their homework
assignments in their notebooks and I will check the parent communication
section daily.

The primary purpose of homework is to reinforce concepts taught in school.
Therefore, the majority of homework assignments required will be reviewing
material discussed during the school day. Exceptions in the forms of projects
and long-term assignments will require students to manage their time
efficiently, which will be discussed in detail at the introduction to any
project.

In addition to assigned homework, students are expected to be reading a
minimum of 20 minutes at home every night. Regular reading is directly linked
to improved reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and spelling. Please
encourage your fifth grader to choose an appropriate book that will not only
function as a great learning medium, but also facilitate their enjoyment during
reading.
