Math homework is now being sent home several times a week. Homework
should be completed the day it is assigned and returned to school the
following day. Please help your child as much or as little as you feel
necessary. Homework should NOT be a source of stress.

Spelling homework is assigned daily. Typically, the children are asked
to find their spelling words hidden in a word search puzzle, write a
sentence using each spelling word, and sort their words in a variety of
ways. Several parents have asked about the amount of help they should give
their child when writing the spelling sentences. I encourage you to ask
your child "What sound do you hear?" Allow your child to tell you, and then
supply for him/her any tricky or silent letters in that word. Have your
child write the word correctly. Use this as an informal teaching
opportunity to help your child learn more about the spelling patterns in our
language (even those that extend beyond the current week's list of words).
Remember to spend at least ten minutes every night reading the songs
and poems in your child's Poetry Notebook, and a few more minutes reading out
loud to your child or having your child read to you!
