Spelling Words

Our weekly spelling words are taken directly from the list of sight words for each term.  Homework will be assigned nightly so that the children have an opportunity to practice the words. Tests (including a dictated sentence) will be given on Fridays. The dictation sentence will not be sent home prior to the test. The sentence uses words from the week's list, words from previous lists, and words the children can sound (or tap) out. The children are expected to start the sentence with a capital letter, form their letters correctly, and use the correct punctuation at the end of the sentence.

Starting the week of Jan. 20, the children will be asked to choose 5 words from their weekly spelling list and write each word in its own sentence. Each sentence must be at least 5 words long. Each sentence must begin on a new line. The spelling word in the sentence must be underlined and the sentence must have the correct punctuation at the end. It's very important that all letters are the correct size and are written neatly!

There will be no new spelling words for the rest of the year!
