We will celebrate Halloween this Friday. In the morning, the children will do
Mummy Math. They will wrap each other up in toilet paper, make predictions,
count the sheets, group them on our place value mats, and laugh a lot. In the
afternoon, we will have a Halloween Party followed by a school wide
sing-a-long, and then the traditional Halloween Parade. We look forward to
waving to you outside the school, as we parade along. Children should bring
their costumes to school on Friday ( costumes are optional). They will put
them on after lunch. Please refer to the Cole Connection for specific
guidelines ( no weapons, face paint, masks, etc). Thank you to our room
parents for organizing the party.

Next week, I am implementing some changes in Spelling. The children will take
their "pre-test" on Monday ( column #1 of the spelling paper that they
typically bring home on Mondays or Tuesdays). If they get all of the words
correct, they can select ( individually) 3 challenge words. If they get one
word wrong, they can select 2 challenge words. If they get two wrong, they can
select one challenge word. I will record each child's challenge words and
will check them on Friday, at the end of the group spelling test. In addition,
you will receive a slip of paper with missed words ( from the original 8
spelling words) on Friday, if your child spelled them incorrectly on the
Friday test. Those missed words will be added to their spelling list the next
week.

If you have not already done so, please return signed Progress Reports and
your date selections for Parent Conferences.

Bookorders will go home on Thursday. If you would like to order books, please
return the completed form and check no later than Wednesday, November 3, 2009.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concern.
