Listening Assignment

Developing an understanding of art music requires frequent listening.  This is meant to be a fun 
assignment to encourage you to listen to a style of music which you may not often experience.  
The first 1/2 of this assignment must be completed by Friday, January 15, 2010.
The second 1/2 of this assignment must be completed by Tuesday, June 1, 2010. 
This assignment is worth 20% each semester.
  
OPTION #1:
Attend two concerts (4 for students in grades 10-12)  by Winnipeg's major musical ensembles.  
Concerts by the following groups or 
series are eligible:

Other groups may be acceptable. Permission to count another group's concert for this assignment 
must be obtained in advance.

Select two CD's (4 for students in grades 10-12) from our CD library. Listen to them and provide the 
following information:

5.) 	With a few complete sentences describe each piece (i.e. each CD track) - ex. slow, fast, loud, 		
        brassy, melancholy, dramatic, melodic, chaotic, difficult/easy to listen to, etc. What do you hear? 		
        (With your description, convince me that you listened to it.)
