Announcements

Graduation, this Thursday, May 25, 2017
Instructions:

-All singers are required to perform at Graduation. Mandatory/graded.

-You must be dropped off Thursday morning 8:30. Please carpool. There will be no busses because school is closed, and parking is only for the parents/families of seniors. Please make your plans now. If you have to drive, park away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

-Wear all back, lightweight. It's indoors in the gym this year, so we will wear the robes over our black.

-bring bottled water and snacks that don't have noisy bags.

-Meet in B100 at 8:30 am for attendance.

-We need to be in the gym seated by 9:15 am, and we must walk in, robed,  together.

-Graduation begins at 10:00 am and goes approximately one hour. You will need to stay throughout.

-Keep in mind it will be very, very crowded, and we will need to stay together when moving from the music area to the event.

-When it is over we help the band students fold chairs, rack stands and carry percussion back to the band room. You don't want to rush home afterwards because of the congested traffic in any event. Have your parents pick you up after we are done and you're back inside B100.

My former student, K.C. Kohler, is working in Santa Monica, CA (not far from where my son lives in Los Angeles)  as a pastor of a Lutheran church.  One of the locals is Eric Whitacre.  Eric biked over the other day to rehearse a new piece, and they are debuting it tonight  1-14-17 at KC's church.  (Holy Cow!!!!!) How cool is that???

Spring Concert Refection Paper 2016

Write a formal Paper. Minimum 2 pages double spaced, New Times Roman, 12 point,  ½ inch margins. Email to abrumbach@aacps.org

Due no later than June 3, 2016

1. How have you improved as an individual singer this year. Be very specific. Include how you have improved with actually READING the music. Focus on your growth as a musician and what “A Ha!” moments you had while a member of the choir.

2. How has your section improved since the Winter Concert.

3. How has the concert choir improved since the winter concert.

4. Be very specific.

5. Song titles go in italics

6. Bonus points for getting it in early

7. Bonus points for going above and beyond with lots of detail (the more detail you write, the more points you get)

8. Avoid filler sentences such as “I have to write a paper about…”

9. Include observations or comments your parents and friends mentioned after the concert.

10. Avoid any negativity. Always reframe and rephrase anything negative into a neutral or positive manner. (Instead of “The Altos suck” say “The Altos went out of tune at the end of the 2nd piece).

11. Avoid the pronoun “I” as much as you can. You don’t have to avoid it altogether, but if a sentence can be worded without “I” then do that.
