~The Adventures of Mrs. Kohn~
The Case of the Coffee Maker
By E.F

The sun was coming up and everything was silent. Dreams and nightmares crept
away from all of the early risers in town. Mrs. Kohn was one of them. She
went downstairs to see that the coffee maker was already on. Thats
strange, I turned it off yesterday evening. She murmured. The day went on
and Mrs. Kohn prepared several projects for her class.
Around 5:15 she left Bells Mill Elementary School. At exactly 6:00 she was walking up the
front doors of her house. She closed her eyes and let he feet lead her to the
kitchen. There Mrs. Kohn opened her eyes, startled because of the strong
smell of coffee. She was relieved that the coffee maker wasnt working but
nearly fainted when she saw a mug full of coffee just sitting there on the
counter, bubbling and warm. It was Mrs. Kohns usual mug. That mug was the
one that she drank to keep her awake all night until her bedtime. Mr. Kohn
always got home late from work. So Mrs. Kohn would leave a note telling him
that she had gone to bed.
But when Mr. Kohn got home, Mrs. Kohn was not asleep. She could not fall asleep! Who had
made her coffee? She forced herself to think that her husband had filled the mug in the
afternoon. So, before her husband could come upstairs, she scribbled on her note. It
said Thanks honey! The coffee was delicious!!! Mrs. Kohn quickly pulled
the covers over her head. The next day Mrs. Kohn woke up extra early to see
her husband. She soon found out that he had not made her coffee.
That night as she fell asleep she heard a loud noise from the kitchen. She tip-toed
down the stairs, to see her students making her morning cup of coffee!!

Socializing with Students
By L.F.

I think that more people should learn to socialize better. For example, we
should try to stop bullying and try to understand people easier. If we
socialize better then there will be less war and killing, so the whole world
could be safe if we all just try to get along. So if we do this, you can
get
along with people you dislike. If you notice someone new, then do not judge
them right away. Instead you should sit with them at lunch and play with
them at recess. You do not have to agree with them, but be nice.

The connection between Iraq and Global Warming
Do you ever wonder what we are really doing in Iraq?
Some people say it is because of oil. Others say it is because of democracy
and many other reasons.
I dont think it is because of democracy. I think it is because we use so
much oil in many different ways. And Iraq is the source of the same oil
that
pollutes the air and causes Global Warming.
We use oil to power cars, run factories and even to fix squeaks. When we
use oil to power cars, it pollutes the air. That leads to global warming.
Other ways global warming gets worse is when we use smoke stacks and
basically anything that makes gases.
The pollution is melting all the ice in the Artic. That is killing the
polar bears. The melting ice affects not only the polar bears, but also
affects us through the entire icy food chain. Cods live below the ice.
Less
cod means that narwhals, belugas, and the seals will mostly likely starve.
The melting ice also affects us because all of the extra water will rise
onto
the beaches and flood nearby homes.
A little while ago there was a meeting about how to stop global warming.
Every country had a representative except the United States of America. I
dont know for sure, but I think we didnt have a representative because
President Bush said that he didnt want anyone to go to it.
I think we should have had someone at the meeting. One of the reasons
global warming cant stop without our participation is because we are the
biggest polluter. If we were one of the countries that werent really
involved, it wouldnt really matter if we went to the meeting.
Now I am beginning to think that Mr. Bush does not understand Global
Warming. When Mr. Bush ran for the White House the second time, I was
really
amazed that he got re-elected. I think that John Kerry should have been
elected. Some people must have thought that the war was for a good reason.
I thought otherwise. It is now good that we will have a new president
because it is most likely that the war will stop and we will find something
other than oil to power our tools and cars.
And stop Global Warming.
You may wonder who am I and why do I care so much about global warming. I
am a 3rd grader at Bells Mill Elementary School. We do a lot of fun things,
especially fun science projects. One of the things that we did was grow
Wisconsin Fast Plants. They grew in less than 3 weeks. We had to make bee
sticks with dead bees on top to pollinate the flowers. The most fun thing
that we did in that activity was to plant the seeds. We talk a lot about
the environment and global warming. The basic way that I learned about
global warming is because I listen to the news and I love to read about
polar
