Math: Unit 5:
Throughout unit 4 we will be studying fractions and graphing. We have completed the first half of this unit which takes a closer look at fractions. The students are able to add, compare, and name models of fractions. The second half of this unit examines double bar graphs. We will be discussing the 8 elements that can be found on all graphs.
Science
We have completed half of our Astronomy and Weather unit as well. Currently we are working on our comets, meteoroids, and asteroids brochures in class. Students are researching information to include in their brochures.
Writing:
We will be learning about the five different text structures associated with informational writing. We will examine the different text structures and determine some key words associated with each structure. Students have begun their first informational writing piece and are in the rough draft stage of the writing process.
Reading:
We have just begun our third reading theme for the year. The stories in this theme are all about characters that are able to "go with the flow" in difficult situations. Two of the pieces in this theme are nonfiction, one is a tall tale, one is a reader's theater, and the first piece was a historical fiction piece.. .
