ILA:
Our next theme in the anthology will be Neighborhood News. As the children read and
listen to
literature in this theme, they will discover that members of a community are connected in a
variety of ways. The reading strategies we will focus on are using picture clues to confirm
meaning, sequencing events, summarizing, and self-correcting errors.
Please continue to have your child read every school night for 15 minutes. Please
continue to log the title of the book and the minutes.
Thank You Corner:
We would like to thank all the volunteers involved in making the Patriot Program a
success and all the parents who were able to attend the field trip.
Math:
Our next unit in math is Decimals and Place Value. We will revisit counting money and
showing amounts of money. In addition, students will practice reading and writing three digit
numbers and identifying the place and value of the digits in these numbers, counting forward and
backwards by tens, and continue memorizing basic facts.
Please practice math facts daily with your child. Start with just a few flash cards and when
your child has mastered them, add one or two new ones to the pile.
Please continue to review graded papers in your child’s folder. This will give you a
good indication of how your child is performing in school.
Silent Auction:
Please be looking for items to contribute to the silent auction basket for each
classroom.
Esbrandt: Coffee, Tea, and Snacks
Jakubiak: Beachy Items
Shaw: Family Books
Writing:
Our next theme in writing is poetry. Your child will be exposed to various types of
poems, and they will have experience writing some of these types.
Please continue to:
*Replenish your child’s school supplies
*Empty your child’s homework folder with him/her daily to remove graded work
*Sign the assignment book daily
Thanks for all you do!
Science:
Our next science unit is Sink and Float. We will be doing experiments to determine
which objects float and which sink in water. Then we will use the same objects and determine if
they can float in other liquids such as salt water, alcohol, and syrup.
