FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What will we be doing for first quarter? The seventh grade curriculum studies four Literary Archetypes in first quarter. This means we will be reading and analyzing the traits of different kinds of story patterns and categorizing them to get a sense of how these stories are developed. The four types are Romance (adventure), Comedy, Satire, and Tragedy. Please ask your children what we are reading in class and of the characteristics of the archetypes. Will we be reading any novels? No. Right now the reading classes have novel study in the curriculum. English literature will focus on short stories and analysis of these stories. In second quartr we plan to read a mystery/suspense novel. We will be doing a research project in the first quarter on Hispanic Heritage and overcoming conflict starting in October. The Gifted and Talented class will be reviewing parts of speech and how the English Language works. Following this study they will be inventing their own word to add to the English language. They will write and deliver a speech to justify why the word should be added. How often will homework be assigned? Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday each week. Please check the page for Homework on this web site to be informed of your child's assignments and see that they are completed at the appropriate time. How do I sign up to view my child's grades on line? A letter will be sent home to invite you to join on-line updates. Please fill out the bottom portion of the form and return it with your child. The form asks for an eight character password (letters AND numbers needed). What can I do at home to support my child at school? When your child states that he/she is finished with homework, have him/her place the agenda to the current days column before you. Then ask him/her to show each completed assignment in his/her Green folder. The work listed in the agenda should match what is in the Green folder. You can also double check teachers' websites to make sure your child has written the assignments in the agenda correctly. What is Cradlerock's Turn It In Policy? Finished work must be turned in on the assigned due date. Work a day late earns up to 50% of total points. Two or more days later is worth 0%. (This does not apply to excused absences) |
