September 2009:
Directions for submitting test/quiz corrections:

You have the option of completing corrections for tests and quizzes. Follow
this procedure to earn back half of the points you missed.

1. Use a new sheet of loose leaf paper.
2. Re-do the problem correctly showing ALL work.
3. Complete an error analysis. This means you need to tell me what error you
made on the test or quiz. Be specific. Don't tell me you were careless. Did
you calculate incorrectly? Did you follow the incorrect process? Did you copy
the problem incorrectly? Did you follow the directions?
4. Staple your corrections on the top of your original test or quiz.
5. Turn in your corrections the NEXT time you have class. I will NOT accept
corrections late!

You will earn half credit for corrections. They will show up on your grade
sheet as extra credit.

This is the only opportunity you will have in my class for extra credit!

If you have questions, please be sure to see me BEFORE corrections are due!

September 2009:

WELCOME to Grade 8 Math!

Students will need the following supplies for math class this year:
3 ring binder
Loose Leaf Paper
1 subject notebook (2)
3x5 index cards (1 pack)
Ruler
Compass
Protractor
Pocket folder
Pencils (ALL work MUST be completed in pencil)

TI-83+ calculators are available for each student to use during math class
periods. Please see the information provided in the EMMS Supply list regarding
the type of calculator you may wish to purchase for use at home.

Expect math homework each class day, including weekends. You are expected to
attempt every problem and show all your work! If you cannot complete a
particular problem, do all you can, and state what is causing you difficulty.
Keep all math work in a 3 ring binder, pocket folder, and/or spiral notebook.

I use total points for grading purposes. Points will vary by individual
assignment. Assignments will include tests, quizzes, class work, and homework.

Quarterly grades will be calculated as follows:
Points earned/Points possible       x     100   =   percentage grade

Grading Scale:
90-100% = A     80-89% = B     70-79% = C     60-69% = D     <60% = E

This year I will be using TeacherEase as my online grading program.
Information regarding TeacherEase was included in your child’s First Day
Folder. Please check your child’s academic progress throughout the school
year. Please contact me if you are unable to access your child’s grades online.

Students who are absent from class must make up missing work. When a student
misses a class, he/she should call a friend to get the assignment or check my
website.

Be sure to visit our school website at http://www2.hcpss.org/emms/ to find
important information. Click on Teacher List – Math Teachers – Margaret
Caporaletti to find daily homework assignments.

All Grade 8 students in the State of Maryland will be taking the Maryland
School Assessment in March 2010.

I am looking forward to a super year! If you have any questions or concerns
during the year, please don’t hesitate to contact me. My email address is:
margaret_caporaletti@hcpss.org or you can leave a message by calling the
school at (410) 313-2839. I will make every effort to respond within 24 hours.

Students will be asking parents/guardians to complete an information sheet
that needs to be signed and returned to me during their next math class. Thanks!
