About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
This is my seventh year as a teacher in Howard County. I previously taught for two years at Holy Cross School in Garrett Park, MD. I am a native of Maryland, having grown up in the Silver Spring area. I attended Washington College in Chestertown, MD from where I obtained my BA in English, a minor in Anthropology, and MD State Teaching Certification for English: Grades 5-12. I am currently finishing up a Master's Program in School Library Media at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD. I will be completing my media specialist internship during the Fall semester right here at EMMS with Mrs. Manley! I am thrilled to be starting another school year at Ellicott Mills Middle School, and I am even more excited about meeting my students and their families. I anticipate a fun, though challenging year, and I look forward to the opportunity to better equip all of my students with the reading, writing, oral, and comprehension skills needed to be successful in all areas of their lives.
Mission Label:
Mission
The mission statement of Ellicott Mills Middle School is, "to ensure that each student meets or exceeds rigorous performance standards so they may actively participate in a diverse and changing world." As an English teacher, it is my responsibility to facilitate each student's mastery of reading, writing, oral, and comprehension skills. I strive to design lessons, activities, and projects that have realistic purposes and that incorporate a variety of learning styles and strategies. I would consider this to be my main goal for this class--to make learning meaningful for my students. My hope is that my students will carry over skills and knowledge learned in my class to other disciplinary subjects, as well as to their own real lives.
