I have been a most fulfilled teacher for a total of 30 years, first in
Massachusetts, where I was born and raised, and then in the Howard County
Public Schools for the past 25 years. This Past June, I ended my formal
teaching career and now look forward to working with individual students to
build their math skill level and boost their confidence in their mathematical
abilities.
My mission is for all of my students to develop an appreciation for the
importance of mathematics as well as a feeling of confidence in their
mathematical abilities. In fact, let's use the letter "C" as a theme here. I
hope all my students will feel...
1. Comfortable ("I usually understand what I'm supposed to do, and I feel
safe to ask questions if I don't know what to do.")
2. Challenged ("This work is important, interesting, and exciting and at
the right level for me - it's 'tackleable!' " )
3. Courageous ("If I don't get it right away, I'm going to look at the
situation from another angle, and try a different approach.")
4. Confident ("I can do it!")
5. Connected ("Hey, this math goes along with my science and social
studies work! I can even use it in sports!)
6. Committed (I'm going to roll up my sleeves, and dig right in and keep
trying till I finish!)
and
7. Capable ("Wow, I'm good at this!)
Come join me!
Sincerely Yours,
Marcia Russell
