Welcome to 2nd Quarter!
The second quarter curriculum of 7th grade Life Science covers the following
body systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory,
digestive, and excretory. The nervous, endocrine and immune systems will be
covered in the beginning of third quarter. We will spend approximately one to
two weeks investigating each body system. Emphasis will be on morphology,
function, and care of each body system. We will also examine the connections
among the systems in the human body. Students will create “Owner’s Manuals” of
their body systems as a way to make personal connections with the systems we
are studying. Each system will have pages dedicated to: functions, related
vocabulary, diagram and how to care for the system.
The second quarter curriculum of 8th grade Physical Science investigates
energy and waves. Areas of study include: energy transformations, electrical
safety, conductors, insulators, simple electric circuits, magnetic fields,
electromagnets, properties of waves, sound waves, and light waves. Emphasis
will be learning the concepts and applying knowledge in a number of laboratory
investigations. I will work with students to develop well-written lab reports
as I continue to prepare them for high school science.
