Over the first quarter the 6th grade teachers have received a few emails and parent
concerns regarding organization and long term project assignments. Here are some
suggestions.
1.) PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENT TO COPY DOWN THEIR HOMEWORK
CAREFULLY !!! EVERY BIT OF WHAT IS WRITTEN WITHOUT SHORTCUTTING
IT FOR THEMSELVES !!!!!!!
Sometimes the students are shortcutting and therefore are not getting all that was to
be done written down.
2.) PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENT TO SEEK OUT HELP WITH THEIR
ASSIGNMENTS IF THEY ARE CONFUSED. They can sign up for team time with
any teacher almost every day of the week, ask during class, or talk with a fellow
classmate/homework buddy.
3.) GT STUDENTS- ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENT TO TALK WITH YOU AND THE
TEACHER ABOUT THEIR PROJECT OFTEN.-
If they are having troubles, they need to speak up.
4.) PARENTS - PLEASE REVIEW THE ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS THAT YOUR
STUDENT HAS WITH THEM. IF HANDOUTS ARE GIVEN PLEASE MAKE AN
ADDITIONAL COPY FOR YOURSELF AND OR ASK YOUR STUDENT TO SHOW
YOU THEIR WORK ON A CONSISTENT BASIS.- Many of the students do not ask for
help. Please stay up to date with them so that they are not going to get behind in
assignments. Write notes in the agenda book or e-mails whenever there is a
question. ALSO- your students assignments are explained to them each day and
they are often given helpful hints and notes to add to the assignments that they
given.
5.) ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENT TO COLOR CODE OR ORGANIZE THEIR
AGENDA BOOK SO THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WRITE THINGS DOWN IN
THE WRONG PLACE.- Every week in Team the teachers encourage the students to
color code their agenda books to help them stay organized.
6.) MISSING HOMEWORK STAMPS- CHECK YOUR STUDENTS AGENDA BOOK
FOR THESE. ALL 6TH GRADE TEACHERS USE THESE TO INDICATE MISSING
ASSIGNMENTS.- BE SURE TO QUESTION THEM ABOUT THE MISSED
ASSIGNMENT AND SIGN THE AGENDA BOOK PLEASE.- In every class the
students are asked to identify what assignments that they are receiving the stamp
for in the space next to the stamp.
7.) MOST IMPORTANATLY!!!!! ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO PAY ATTENTION,
STAY ON TASK, AND PUT IN THEIR BEST EFFORTS.- We all want to see your
student be successful but we need your efforts and your student's efforts as well.
