Our Earth The first unit of study spans most of the first quarter and familiarizes students with the basic features of the Earth, geography skills, map components and elements of culture. North Africa and the Middle East- In this unit students explore the physical and human geography of this region. Students will learn about ancient civilizations and cultures of Mesopotamia and Egypt. Students will also learn about what is happening today in this region. Sub-Saharan Africa In this unit students will also explore the physical and human geography of this region. Students will learn about ancient civilizations and cultures of West African and East Africa. They will explore the impact man has made on this region and what is happening there today. Students may be given a research project during this unit. South Central Asia In this unit students explore the physical and human geography of this region. Students will learn about ancient civilizations and cultures of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal..... Students will also learn about what is happening there today. East and Southeast Asia In this unit students explore the physical and human geography of this region. Students will learn about ancient civilizations and cultures of China, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Tibet, Vietnam, Phillipines, Indonesia.... Students will also learn about what is happening today in this region.
