An art critic is an important individual when it comes to evaluating and
analyzing works of art. The critic's expertise is predicated by his or her
knowledge of art and personal skill as an artist. Because of this, new and
aspiring artists can often become renowned over night by how a critic
advocates his or her talent. On the other hand, an artist can find little
recognition or support if the art critic reflects a negative response to the
work exhibited. This aspect was surely demonstrated during the 19th Century
when artists started doing Impressionism. Impressionism was totally different
from the tradtional art of the time, so many critics, who did not understand
the style, took liberties to ridicule or put down not only the art, but also
the artist who created the painting. Sadly, many wonderful pieces didn't
become acclaimed till well after the artist had died.
To provide these artists their well-deserved acclaim, you will be
transported back in time to research and understand not only their style of
art, Impressionism, but also the artist as well. With the knowledge acquired
first hand, you will first provide a critique that will substaniate the
process, Impressionism, and illuminate the standing of the artist as an
acclaimed painter of that era. Secondly, with your own personal skill and
talent, you'll create a painting that reflects the artist's style and manner,
giving this artist the strongest accredidation deserving of his or her
accomplishments.
***Because some of the artists during the Impressionistic era did nude
paintings, all students will be required to have parental permission, stating
their approval to not only enter this time period, but also to view the art
work provided in the various sites.
