Re: Student Overall Expectation Letter
Subject: Gen. Biology 1, Biology Honors

Dear Parent and Student Book # _______

Welcome to the 2009-2010 science year. I'm pleased to have your child
in my classroom. I will be discussing in the first couple of days of class
our procedures. I will teach a variety of learning styles during the course
of the year. Most mportantly I want everyone to understand the expectations
of the student.

Overall Expectations:
Be wise enough to realize when someone is trying to help you. Show
courtesy and safety with all while inside or outside the classroom.
It is extremely important that individuals or groups do not interfere
with anyone elses learning or your own learning (or my teaching). Don't
expect any teacher to give you all the answers. I expect you to work to the
best of your ability. I expect you to also read your textbook. I only have
three class rules. Allow me to teach, allow others to learn, allow yourself
the best opportunity to learn. I will be very constant with these rules.
Bottom line be accountable for the material that you are learning, be
courteous of others, be honest and responsible for yourself.

     Grading
Your grade will be a running average, that means a total number of points
earned will be divided by the total number of points. I expect you to keep
your grades. Tests, Quizzes and Laboratory Investigations and other hands-on
activties will count for 50% of your total grade. Most of my test will come
from having read your textbook. The other material is used to reinforce
concepts taught to you. The following will count for 25 % of
your total grade. The other 25% of a grade comes from the following.
     > Homework not all homework will be graded)
     > Weekly Quizzes (covering homework or prefix quizzes that week)
     > Review & reinforcement worksheets
     > Chapter Test, Howard County Assessments
     > Notebook Organization
     > Bookwork
     > Deportment
*** Please note the Maryland Biology High School Assessment will be taken in
May. It is not the final exam.

     Quarterly grades are as follows:
A=90% and above, B=89% to 80%, C=79% to 70%, D=69% to 60%, E=59% and lower.

range of knowledge and informational help that can be used to assist and
support you. Please find the site below at

Homework:
For homework makeup generally ask three before me to find out what you've
missed! Pick up missed assignments from the ASSIGNMENT BIND when absent if
you miss a class, return the assignment the next day. Late assignments will
be given a zero.

   Classroom Rules

1. You will not do anything that prevents the teacher from teaching.
2. You will not do anything that prevents others from learning.
3. You will not do anything that prevents yourself from learning.
